So what’s this about?

Here’s the story: As someone who rediscovered my Christian faith in my late twenties, I experienced an initial honeymoon via the usual routes of Catholic devotion. They were wonderful years, but eventually through various trials, including being diagnosed with anxiety, a found myself in crisis. Where did my peace go? How do I get back to those grace filled years?

St Paul talks about the fruits of the Spirit being peace, love, joy, gentleness and self-control - so why was my life lacking so many of these? How could I find a life where I was able to “rejoice always, pray without ceasing and give thanks in all things” (1 Thess 5:16-18)?

I found the answers to these questions in the deep and rich Christian contemplative tradition, and also the mystical teachings of other religions. It was only in the collision of these traditions that I was able to begin tasting the “peace that surpasses all understanding” (Phil 4:6).

So when one receives a gift, in the logic of the continuing flow of the Spirit, the thing to do is to try and pass it on. So this newsletter is my attempt to do that. It may be fumbling at times, ill informed at others, but it is my genuine hope that you find something in these writings that helps you find a more peaceful, joyful and flourishing Christian life.
